Been there

Been there and am there. Also my mother in law was wonderful when I was dating my husband and now it depends on the day. I think if he is able to have reasonable boundaries with her go for it, if he has no spine and has no interest in learning- forget it.

she comes with the territory. have had both. a bad one and then a good one. was worth the wait for the good one. bad one wasn't worth the stress and strife trying to placate everyone. affects the kids too. gack

I ripped the ass out my pants today.
My whole ass was hanging out.
And my mother in law was there.
Fell down drunk pissing on her Daisy's at the Family BBQ .
Embarrassing !

Never underestimate the impact that difficult in-laws can have on a relationship. Like another comment said, if he’s got a backbone and can set firm boundaries and have your back with her, then it might work. But if he’s afraid to stand up for you or himself then it’s a recipe for disaster. Been there and the breakdown of the marriage had a lot to do with the fact that he was completely spineless and threw me under the bus repeatedly with his parents.

With our failing healthcare system she’ll be dead sooner than you know. Don’t worry and think about the inheritance. Cha ching.

I had a just horrible MIL! But in retospeact she was just a product of her environment and up bringing AND when you look very very closely, your partner is a little bit like her too, even if it's just a little.

But I now have NEW mother-in-law I could never ever dream of having! She's is just off the charts awesome. Even though I don't see her that often when we do it's a treat :-)

I have a nightmare potential in-law family not just my boyfriend’s mother but also his siblings. Very dysfunctional family and I’m considering waking away.
