Burnaby Safeway

How DARE you give me attitude for not giving 2 dollars to your charity at the till. I give on my own time and I work in homeless shelters. You have no idea how much I give to the community. I have been shopping there for 10 years and have given your store thousands and thousands of money. This is the ultimate insult.

Would it be accurate to say

You are experiencing feelings of outrage linked to depletion, burnout, and violation of personal boundaries?

Well, I suppose I wouldn't enjoy someone acting aggressive about donating. I'm more likely to make a donation to a charity given the time to do my own research and make an informed choice. I would just say "No" in your shoes.

Dangerway

I not only got salmonella food poisoning from a Dangerway one time, but then consider all the swag chemi poisoned foods that all the stupermarkets and fast food joints deal. Who are the real criminals?

Do you have any idea

how difficult and awkward it is to be forced to ask people if they'd like to donate to charity, when as a cashier, I know full well how many people are already stretched to the limit? And how if I don't ask, they can obtain a free chocolate bar from customer service and I can look forward to a dressing down from my horrible supervisor? I'm not judging you if you don't want to give to charity. I'm not making assumptions about you. I'm just exhausted and trying my best to be polite and kind to customers. Please cut cashiers a break. Don't blame them for these policies.

Just a heads up...

This is a tax write-off for Safeway, Tim Hortons, or who ever you give money to when exiting a store. Point that out to the clerk, they most likely don't know the ins and outs of operating a business, they're working class people and the working class aren't well-educated in business. Get your own tax write-off, and give to charity.

I also find this so annoying

I think that if a person wants to donate to a certain charity they can do so on their own and feel good about themselves for doing it. If you donate at a till in a store the store may get credit for donating $100,000. Er whatever and it is just money sucked from their customers $2.00 at a time.

How exactly?

You’re obviously feeling embarrassed and outraged, but if you’re going to post in a forum called “confessions” you could at least provide some actual details. Otherwise this is no different than a rant on CL.

Money extraction

Aug 4, 2022 at 8:10pm

Businesses try to extort money from me all the time: charities, tips, donations, extra services I don’t want, upsizing, etc. You won’t get a penny more from me. I never feel bad for declining someone else’s choice of charity. A cashier tried to keep my change this week. They must see everyone as an ATM machine.

Charity Scams

You donate the money, Safeway gets the charitable receipt to write off on their taxes. I don't give these corporations a nickel.

No worries

I'm sure the staff don't really care whether you donate or not; it's an ackward thing they are made to do as part of their job .
