Entitled

I work in retail. My store is very popular with the film industry. I swear these film guys are the most entitled, whiniest, ego centric people i have ever met. This guy storms into our shop today, barks his order at me and continues to talk loudly on his phone. Unfortunately, what he wanted was not in stock but we had more in the back. Problem is I dont have the key and the boss is not in. Film guy starts going off about how much money they spend and how the boss should come in right away to serve him. I apologize and tell him he will have to wait till tmrw. He flipped his lid and starts cursing and whining about how its so important and it cant wait. He also threatened to tell my boss i was unhelpful and rude LOL. We have cameras dude, and besides my boss knows i would never be rude to anyone, even an asshole film guy. The thing is, if he was nice i would have tried calling the boss. But im tired of accommodating these idiots. Im not impressed with your Hallmark movie of the week bro. Go flex somewhere else.

Entitled to shop at your store

If I were to enter your store to buy something and was told by you to come back tomorrow, I would consider you were "unhelpful". And if I received a bunch of attitude at the same time because of the industry I was in, I would consider yourself "rude". Who are you calling an "asshole"? Take a good long look in the mirror.

Vancouver's "entertainment industry", the actors are either on their way up, or on their way out.

I worked in fabric retail and we got a lot of film folks at our shop. I totally agree with you, the most entitled people in the city. I had one guy actually have a temper tantrum because we woulnt give him something for free after he spent a few hundred dollars. Like, you think you deserve special treatment because you spend money? LMAO!! We all spend money everyday you jerk. You are not special.

The Op said that the guy was rude from the start. They didn’t have access to the storage room and the person who did wasn’t there. They’re not obligated to kow-tow to someone just because that person thinks they’re a big shot. If you’re one of those entitled types who expect special treatment because you believe you’re a special person, then perhaps you’re the one who needs to take a long look in the mirror. Unfortunately the movie industry creates this type of attitude because of the association with “celebrity”. Somehow it seems to rub off on everyone who works in it, regardless of what role they actually play in making a production. Maybe you drive a car for the actors. Maybe you build sets or provide greenery. Maybe you do security. You’re not special. Sorry to break it to you but it’s just a job like every other. Ultimately though it’s got a lot to do with the attitude of the people in charge who push the workers with ridiculous schedules and expectations of over-the-top performance from the employees. Divas all of them.

Well I hope venting was worth it

Film people read the Straight. You have just admitted you decided not to call the boss to help out. Hopefully this was a vague enough confession that you haven’t been instantly identified.

The hilarious thing is, the entire film industry produces about 1/1000 revenue of the oil industry.

Film is s tiny industry with incredible powers of propaganda. Out of the thousands who toil in the film industry worldwide, the overwhelming majority who work in it have no hope of earning any more than a reasonable living.

In other words, it is so small an industry that no one other than a miniscule few ever hope to get rich working in it.

You might not agree, but, the film industry is who we are. They are the advertising medium. They set the pace with the music you listen to, the styles of clothing you wear...even the slang you speak. They are the artists of society. They are the one's that you wish you were. Yes they are phoney and a bunch of posers, but they still set the pace. It's the way we make money in the new economy.
