I miss real pizza.

I remember in the 80's and the 90's when pizza slices were huge with thick fluffy dough and a ridiculous amounts of cheese and toppings. Now pizza today everywhere I go no matter what serve these tiny and thin as cardboard slices with a smackle bit of cheese and miniscule toppings. Is this how these pizza businesses are making money? By ripping us off. Are there any real pizza joints left and if so where are they?

The ingredients cost too much. The margin is real slim with the cheapest of the cheap; burgers, pizza, shawarma, chinese takeout. You either have to pay more or move to somewhere cheaper. Great cheap pizza still exists in places like Thailand, Ecuador and Malaysia!

I miss Love at First Bite

on Granville. As an island kid $20 got me both ferry trips, the 257, and enough for 2 slices of love at first bite off the Georgia/Granville stop on the way to a concert and life changing moments that still bring me joy. Or coming down off acid going the other way. The pizza was usually the sustenance of a 24 hour adventure.

Last week I went and bought a slice of pepperoni pizza. When they handed the slice to me after warming it up, it literally had 2 and a half slices of pepperoni on it. I was like wtf.

I miss the $2 personal pan pizza from the 90s. Those were the days!

Yes, and the slices are paper thin. All toppings are very low quality. If you want quality, make your own. Many bakeries sell good pizza crusts. You can pile on all your fresh veggies ,meat and real mozzarella. And theres leftovers!

Make your own.
Flour, sugar and yeast costs maybe 25 cents.
A $4.50 brick of cheese at 450 grams makes 2 or 3 pizzas.
500g of sliced pepperoni is $5, you get 3 pizzas. A couple squirts of BBQ sauce as the base is like 10 cents.
A pepper sliced up is a buck or less.
Four bux and a bit gets you an awesome home made pizza, that takes a couple minutes to put together and 12 minutes in the oven.

But no, too busy to make it as those Tiktok,IG and FB accounts need updating and checking every 3 minutes and the Tube needs watching amiright?
