What was she thinking?

A friend of mine left her handsome and funny ex for an old ugly ginger who she’s now having a baby with less than a year later. I can’t ask her why, but I’m just so confused. I guess love doesn’t choose who you fall for? He’s just so gross.

The only person who knows why she left is her. Just because someone seems so perfect on the outside to others who aren’t in the relationship, doesn’t mean that they’re as perfect as you think. I had one of those “perfect” guys too. He was handsome and funny, but he was a complete narcissist who treated me like crap for years but was nice and charming to everyone else. So don’t judge and don’t assume that you know the whole story.

" ugly old ginger " - ?

Wow! Got any prejudices?
Does old automatically mean ugly to you?
Are you planning to die young and stay pretty?
Are you biased against the young and ugly as well? Some people just did poorly in the genetic lottery, not their fault.

As for your anti-ginger bias - Is it just certain hair colours that creep you out, or is it skin colour as well?
Unbelievable.

I like that the OP has such a boring existence that other peoples’ decisions affect them. Must have a crap life.

Handsome and funny are for young people.

Perhaps, you're projecting your own feelings of inadequacy onto your friend's relationship? I've seen this before. Having a more attractive, intelligent or younger partner won't make you any more of those things, and people aren't accessories. In the long run, you're going to want chemistry and something in common. Beauty fades, brain cells die.
