Most of my family is diabetic. I managed to keep it in check with exercise until covid and then I just didn't go out as much or do as much and now I got diabetes. I'm so ashamed. I just feel so worthless. I wish I was like my friends who were healthy and fit.

Go for a walk around your block, or half block. Then repeat it the next day, or a couple days later...or a week later if needed. Then when it's easy, go around twice. Then 3 times. Etc you catch the idea.
Before you know it, you'll be walking for half an hour all over the place, and feel much better.
Worked for me.

I'm not judging you, just going to tell you what worked for me.I was borderline diabetes and didn't want to go the drug route so I adopted a plant based diet of no meat, dairy or oil and I upped my exercise .A yeat later,I am diabetes free.I don't know what your diet is but just by becoming vegan,I no longer faced the theeat of diabetes. My doctor was astounded and I also lost 25 pounds, have lots of energy and feel great. Many people facing type 2 diabetes can see a huge change just by
Changing their diet but it requires commitment. I will never go back to the way I ate before and again, I'm not judging anyone, just telling you what worked for me.Good luck.

I'm sorry to hear that, but you can't totally fight genetics. Mind over matter is Peter Pan bs. Please talk to yourself in a nice way, and try to slowly get your exercise and diet back on track. Who knows, you might be able to become nin-diabetoc in the future. However even if you don't it will help you keep insulin / blood sugar better managed, keep all of your toes and feet, etc.
I never thought I'd become disabled. Always took good care of myself, never smoked, never did drugs, etc. I have a genetic issue and nothing can be done. It reared its head and I'm also trying to celebrate small wins, not listen to ignorant people's bs, and just dp the best I can with it all. Stay strong and goodluck! And be nice to yourself, please! :)
I've heard it said

that diabetes saved my life because now I am forced to smarten up with my diet and excercise. You can reverse it if it's type 2. You will be fine as long as you manage it. You are not worthless. I think you just feel like a fool like I did when I ended up with it in spite of me knowing better. Eating a whole lot better, getting my rest and reducing my stress which has made a big difference. You can overcome this. Stay happy!

Dr Jason Fung’s Obesity Code and Diabetes Code books or free videos on YouTube will help you reverse or greatly improve your diabetes. He is a Canadian kidney doctor who became interested in diabetes as so many of his patients had it and despite conventional treatments were getting worse.
