GoFundMy unnecessary expenses

Maybe I'm a jerk, but it doesn't seem right to me when someone solicits donations from their community for expenses they can't afford AND chooses to go for unnecessary extras.

Dan offers some advice on where she might find it.
You and your sister were at the next table, eating. I asked if you were eating chicken or squid....

but in these increasingly challenging times there of those who do need a hand up, not a hand out. I'm not a rich person and try to practice discretion but in the balance of things I'll take a chance and
help when I can. It actually helps my own trauma anxieties when I help others.

I knew a wealthy guy who put up a Go Fund Me site so he could buy a "special" guitar for his birthday. He could easily have afforded to buy it himself but instead solicited from his friends. I did not contribute.

Some people still haven’t learned the difference between needs and wants. I regularly do without all kinds of things I consider to be wants. Like getting my hair or nails done, new clothes I don’t really need, or spa / cosmetic treatments, etc. So when I give someone who I believe is genuinely in need some financial help, I admit to feeling a little taken advantage of when I find out that they have been spending money on all of the things I have been doing without myself. I have no problem helping out with necessary expenses, but if you’ve got the money to pay for all of those luxuries, then you also should have the money to pay for necessities.
