Life can be cruel

When my daughter was born in 2000 I so wished for her to be a strong intelligent young woman, like Greta Thurnberg. Instead I got this; "Dad,you know that show "Pretty Little Liars"?" "No" "Well that's what mom and me are." "Mom and I" "What?"

Oh, wow, I get that. I have a 23-year-old niece that is taking college courses, been to Europe, NYC, Montreal and several other places, and she has no intellectual curiosity, and is the most self-absorbed bore I've ever met. I convinced she's just going through the motions like a checklist of things that are fashionable to do. I think it's a bi-product of the regional culture, self-absorbed, shallow, and completely concerned with appearances.

It's kind of up to the parents to guide their little minds and set examples.

Parents

who end up taking care of / raising their own children tend to have extreme and long-term osmotic effects on their kids, in one way or another. For a baby to grow into someone vividly free, expressive, deeply aware, nurtured, intelligent, empathic, kind, at ease, and un-traumatized yet resilient, the likelyhood of that is drastically increased if one or both of the parents are already thoroughly that way prior to their birth, and continue to be when the child(ren) are growing up with them.

Sadly, issues of systemic violence aside (and there is _a lot_ of that, and I realize it can't be separated from the rest), it seems like most parents are just not up to the enormous task of ethically having and raising children, so we get generation after generation of traumatized kids and adults raised by parents who, if they are not outright abusive and authoritarian (directly and/or subtly), just often ... aren't up to raising beebees in ways that ensure they don't get traumatized/stifled/indoctrinated (all of which can appear invisible in some cases, even to the parents). Most modern societies being some flavor of unforgiving wage-slavery-based dystopia, definitely makes it much harder, as well.

And I get it, most parents tend to do their best with what they have. But the ethics of raising children are so often overlooked, dismissed or trampled on regardless, it's saddening.

Well Okay...

I think you meant to use a colon ( : ) to introduce a statement rather than a semicolon so you see we all make mistakes with punctuation and grammar etc. Besides, many people don't have perfect grammar when engaged in casual conversation. It doesn't necessarily reflect a lack of intelligence.
Also, I think you spelled Greta's last name wrong.
