This is a confessions forum not a forum for whiners to bitch about how shitty their lives are.
What a mess.

Population growth in Vancouver is down sharply, which should serve as a wake-up call for the city of Vancouver officials. People are tired of being fleeced by greedy landlords and have a world-class cost of living in a city that's not truly world-class, so they're waving goodbye.

I rent a very nice modern 1 bedroom apartment, in a building that is 4 years old.
It's across the road from a 2.5 km long beach with a walking path, covered in palm trees- and lined with vendors of almost anything on the beach. Filled with 100s of places to eat and drink, I buy very healthy and tasty dinners for a few dollars.
There's a very active night market 10 minutes walk away.
Health care and dental is instant, and VERY cheap- and I pay the very highest income tax at 35%.
My place is $440 a month all included- internet, power, etc. and live on the 32nd floor facing the ocean, to see the sunsets every evening.
Am fortunate i could leave, feel bad for those stuck in Vancouver.

Great that you’ve got a low cost of living and beaches/restaurants/healthcare/dental/night markets. But if your life is so great and amazing, why are you reading about Vancouver life when you’re halfway across the planet? Or you just want to be smug about your decision to leave? Seems like you’re not very present in Thailand.

What’s your point? This is a forum for Vancouver, not Thailand. We all know there are cheaper places to live, but the point is that we live here. We don’t all have the option to just leave everyone and everything behind and move to a foreign country just because. Some of us have obligations right here. This place has been home to me since I was born over 70 years ago, so stay I will because I’m not going to abandon my family.

I prefer to have my Bidwell Street Penthouse that used to cost me 150 per month.

Didn't realize that you'd passed some sort of law, stating that Thailand can't check in on his home town every now and then.
You sound jealous, and are gaslighting to cover that up with "not present"

I’m sure the locals in Thailand are just thrilled to have a bunch of people from other countries invading their little paradise because to those people the cost of living is so cheap compared to where they came from. Hmmnn…wait a minute…that sounds kinda familiar doesn’t it? So, just like every other beautiful place on the planet, including Vancouver, it’s going to be trashed because of overpopulation in few short years.

#1- Guess you've never ever checked out Vancouver to see what's up while travelling? Yeah right.
BTW your ad hominem attack/gaslight is quite lame- as if I'm supposed to think only of Thailand every single minute of every day. Guess you missed the point, read below.
#2- Who appointed you the arbiter of the comment section?
Guess I need to explain- my point is to show that there are better places to live than the self proclaimed "Best place on earth"- but you and your ilk are too invested in thinking that.
Why live like a dog here, when you can live very very well elsewhere?
But thank you for repeating what I already stated guess you missed that- am lucky to be able to leave. But there is no need to try and make me look like I abandoned my family, you know nothing about me so don't make assumptions.
@Thai- good for you, hope all goes well and you make it back ASAP
