You needed to experience this so you'd know better the next time. It was all about learning for you.
You had these wishes and desires but they came from a place of naivety, like wanting to be a doctor but not knowing the emotional toll, amount of time and effort, etc. Being quite sheltered from life, you may not have realized what level you needed to be at to handle it...or to see whether you wanted it when you saw what it took to have your wish. The only way for you to know whether you could handle what you wanted was to open up to the possibilities. But without experience, you were unwittingly open to making ill-informed choices and getting with the wrong crowd. In your quest for happiness, you met the people who were wrong for you. You took the easy way and it was the wrong way. Now you know, now you have experience, now you will see red flags so you can better have what you want.

But why you? Because if you're a hammer, you'll attract nails. You know exactly "why you": you're not living in a vacuum where things just magically happen to you. We all have a part in what happens the moment we get out of bed.
Think about it.

No I did not seek it out, but when God showed you to me when no one else was around something happened. I fell very far and hit the ground so hard seeing the beautiful person that lived in you. Now I am terrified something is killing her!

Yep, the easy way... to avoid asking questions and skipping the homework, to jump in with blind confidence because it's easier than to do things like talk, be vulnerable, or to dig deep in inquiry when in unfamiliar territory. One way or another, it's never easy in the end.
I'm the nail for the kind of hammer that does all the exploration and communication in knowing that; I'm not into the lazy or avoidant. Courage is sexy.
