It was the magical land an erroneous belief led you into thinking you were living in. Erroneous beliefs come from information that your subconscious mind in exposed to and most often on a regular basis. Your subconscious is the part of you in which you are not fully aware but it influences all your actions and feelings.
A lot of harmful perceptions of reality come through all the various forms of media and entertainment we're constantly exposed to on a daily basis. In our current age we're bombarded with a lot of information in various forms from the cradle to the grave. Most people are living their lives in a lie that has been well programed into their subconscious mind.

A rhetorical question, does not require a question mark.
