Tipping etiquette

What is the tipping protocol when a service provider does a bad job, and you return to have them redo it? I feel a bit resentful that I have to take a bus again and take time out of my day again for them to fix it, and I wouldn’t be there if they did it right. After my hair stylist fixed her mistakes, she looked expectant of another tip. I already tipped her 20% on her on her initial bad job. I feel guilty for not tipping but am I supposed to on errors being fixed? I’ve been a customer for 15+ years, tipping 20-25% each time.

Dilemma

Now that's a dilemma because you don't want to piss them off as they might really mess up your hair. Maybe it's time for a new hairdresser. At one point I saw two at the same time and boy oh boy was that a mistake. They each claimed it didn't bother them but they made me feel like I was cheating on them. No comments but a real good look at my hair cut from the other person. I ended up quitting both and cutting my own hair for the most part. sigh

NO! Don’t tip her for the repair job. If she does it right this time her reward will be that you continue to be her client! She should be apologizing not looking for an additional tip!

Hell no

Firstly let me say that I think tipping has become so far out of control that it’s insane. It’s so bad that out of a feeling of intense resentment I don’t want to tip at all in some places. Those businesses that offer nothing other than a clerk standing at the cash register and yet still have that “suggested tip” option infuriate me! But in the case you’re describing, absolutely no way should you be expected to tip! If they did a bad job the first time and as a result you’ve been completely inconvenienced, they have zero right to expect a tip.

You only tip if you are happy with the way you have been treated. If not I guess it's a lesson learn for them. Maybe next time they will be nicer or do their job correctly.
Why would you give someone a A+ when they deserved a F.
Common Sense !

YOU are the customer and you have the right to go to whomever you want to have your hair done. I'd be out of that salon in a flash. Find a stylist who does great work on your hair and then feel good about tipping. Getting your hair done is a like a quick spa vacation - you shouldn't have to sit in the stylist's chair and worry what you'll look like when you get out.
