When I let my thoughts run

The most beautiful song from, like, forever ago has lyrics that are a little too extra but the melody and instruments are simply...hmmm... how should I put this... like lying together at night on a rooftop under the stars, watching satellites slowly pass. Your head, feeling the rise and fall on their chest and your hands interlocked, gently playing with each other's fingertips, staring upwards in quiet contentment at the stars while this song plays, forgetting about everything but the here and now. That kind of sensual. I scare myself just thinking about him.... I don't feel anywhere nearly that stalkerish the way those lyrics play out because I like having my own life rather than revolving around someone else's, but when I hear the tone of the song, it really hits feelings that...wow...you know, I want so much to feel this way, to get lost in feelings like those and forget about time while in each other's arms. But I'm just too scared of him.

What do you think causes you to be scared?

Because whenever he feels these things, he does something awful or cruel to ruin or sabotage them, to punish those who love him because he doesn't think he serves the love he desires. I can't help but think that religion and family manipulation have messed him up in this area, and he doesn't believe there is anything wrong so he won't work on himself or his situation to realign his heart in integrity. Not that he's broken, he's not. Just that he's living in needless pain and is spreading that to others as a cure.

Do I?

I wouldn't be scared if I did. Actions speak louder than words, and words and actions without words are incomplete.

I get it

I’m scared of him too. At least I used to be. But the fear wasn’t so much of him as much as it was about how lost I became because of him. I lost myself. Finally after 20-something years he doesn’t scare me anymore. In fact, I’m old enough now that nothing much scares me anymore.

Nah, this guy's making perfect sense. He’s just saying don’t buy into a person’s “goodness” until it’s demonstrated through action, and stop spiritually bypassing to rationalize toxic relationships.

The OP hears a song that conjures feelings of romance with someone that scares them and even said why in the comments. It happens. A person can fall for someone who has issues. Nothing foreign about that.
Do you know the guy they're talking about? Are you that guy? Follow your own advice. You and especially Anon should dig up bonified proof if you're both that skeptical if you're so confidently jaded. But until either of you do so, you can't judge a situation that you haven't personally witnessed. All you're doing is projecting your own personal relationship failures on others to feel superior. And that sounds like bullshit to any normal person.
Go look at the stars more, do some serious self-reflection.
