Mental block

I admit having a mental block in looking for a new place to live. The last time I did, it was the most stressful thing in my life. I was broke for years and pinned to the ground owing so much money to the bank. Working to just keep a roof over my head. To voluntarily give up the tiny space I have, to put myself in so much financial servitude to the bank and my employer, for years, is quite frankly terrifying and depressing. So, stay in 500 sq ft or be a slave to the bank for years for 300 more sq ft. I hate Vancouver. Honestly, I would have left here years ago if not for obligatory familial ties. Everything is paved f*cking over, any space is stampeded with weekend warriors, I don't give two shits about artisanal donuts. Why the eff are we all here?

500 is enough

I feel you. I won't move until I find a place to buy. No way am I paying today's new rental rates, and why should my landlord male more off of a new tenant? I'm currently in 600sq ft and when I buy it'll be like 500 sq ft. It's enough for me. Wanting less keeps me happier. I don't feel at home in Vancouver anymore but there's nowhere else to go. Rural areas are full of rednecks and I can't leave my family doctor for some crappy walk-in in a tiny town. With my health issues, I need to stay near the doctors. It's like being imprisoned in my own body. At least we have the train and it doesn't get as muggy as Toronto or Montreal. That's what keeps me here.

Why you ask?

Because some of us were born here a long time ago and our whole life is here. All of our family is here. But I feel like you do too. I hate it here now and if I had a choice that didn’t involve leaving everyone I love behind I’d leave in a heartbeat. Vancouver is producing new refugees because so many of us are being forced out because it’s becoming impossible to stay. Yet another beautiful place that’s been completely destroyed by too many people and the greed of corrupt politicians.
