When I was a boy in Brooklyn

When I was a boy in Brooklyn, everything was closed on Sunday, except the many churches and one designated pharmacy. When the fog came in from Gravesend Bay, you could only hear the church bells and the fog horns. Now that the world moves at 24/7, and nothing is ever closed, I wonder if anyone will ever hear the church bells and the fog horns.

... the same in Canada until recent memory. Sunday shopping laws were a thing. And if you think about it whether you're Christian or were you just view that as a mythology that created the excuse for a day of rest for everyone, it's a pretty good idea that we should have one day off a week where we can relax and visit together. Lack of a unified day off also creates the idea that we have more infrastructure than we do. If everyone got Sunday off and went to the beach in the summer, we realize how overpopulated things are.
