We always think he’ll have somehow miraculously changed. But nope. He’s still the same self absorbed guy who isn’t capable of apologizing because he genuinely doesn’t think he’s ever wrong. No matter how awful his behaviour is he still thinks it’s justified and that the problem is with us. He thinks he’s doing us a favour by being willing to overlook our awful flaws and giving us another chance. It never occurs to him that it’s us doing him the favour. That rw stuff is getting worse the older he gets too. But people like him don’t change because of their beliefs that they’re totally perfect already (even though it’s obvious from his desperate attempts to prove how amazing he is that inside he knows he’s not). I keep remembering this thing he said not long after we first met and were having a fight. He said he was so far above everyone else that there was no comparison. In my naïveté I brushed it off because it was such an outrageous thing to say that I assumed he didn’t mean it. I’d never met anyone like him so I didn’t realize how messed up he was. Good for you for being strong and not accepting that treatment. He’s not worth the hassle even though he’s got his charms.
