Greedy thieves

If you find something valuable that’s obviously been lost by someone else, and you keep it without trying to get it back to its rightful owner, you’re no better than a thief. You’re a greedy thief. At least make an effort to return it! You can post it on CL lost and found or on your local Facebook group, whatever. But just keeping it for yourself is a really shitty thing to do and that karma is going to bite you in the butt someday.

Lost and found

I’m so glad you posted this !
A few days ago I found some headphones in the front Basket of a Mobi bike, I wrestled with leave them there and maybe the owner comes back, but what if someone else takes them?

Or I can bring them home call the company see if they can facilitate a return most likely to the last person who borrowed the bike

I did the latter and the company was able to determine that yes this customer had lost this particular pair of expensive head phones
(screaming cat emoji)

There was a brief moment where my greed almost got the better of me. My own self entitlement was making up scenarios of how this person can probably afford new ones and how the company would probably do nothing to help

But In the end I did the right thing and reached out to the company and I’m glad for it

This person was probably like me
Using the the subsidized mobi program and the headphones were the one expensive thing they owned or maybe they were filthy rich and it didn’t matter.

You are right if someone finds a lost something they should do they’re best to have it returned to the rightful owner .

Greedy Thieves....

Sep 14, 2023 at 8:22pm

Are on FB and Craigs too, by trying to claim stuff.

A parrot landed on my patio, ate from my hand so I got her on my arm and into my bathtub. My Craigs/FB ad- got 30 people claiming her, yet only one could identify the name on her tag.

This spring I found a silver bracelet and posted a picture.
Of the 43 people who hit me up, not a single one could tell me the initials engraved on the inside.........

How about giving back all the land you stole?

What about those who loose their common sense & decency?

But best I can decipher in this World's school of hard knocks we can't chase people to return to them that which is more precious than $ilver of gold. People have to first want to help themselves. Oh well, if they don't get in during this lifetime, perhaps they will get it during their next school world of hard knocks. Me myself will try my best to get it during this lifetime so I don't have to keep navigating the hard bumps on the road of life. Hahaha - you may think what does this have to do with returning peoples lost material things. That's for you to discern. I hope you are having a good life.

Found: ThermoFlask

Sep 16, 2023 at 1:30am

I recently found a ThermoFlask - if you lost one, see Reddit's r/burnaby where I posted about it.

A couple times I've found something and wondered what to do:

Leave it in case the owner is looking for it?

What if it gets run over by a car or damaged by rain if I leave it?

Or someone else finds it with no intention of finding the owner?

Take it home and post online? Where online? How much of my time is it worth?

If it takes me a couple days to post about it, will I feel guilty? (Yes, yes I will.)

Have turned items into the police - that was a pain in the arse. Would do it again for something of similar value, but didn't enjoy it.

Never thought of CraigsList - I thought it was kind of inactive these days. I'll keep that in mind.

Lake diver

Sep 16, 2023 at 8:39am

Was swimming at a local lake and a diver was cleaning up under the docks but keeping all the glasses and reselling them online as his side gig! Thought he was doing a great thing by making the lake nicer for everyone tho he left all the cans and bottles down there only after the cash.

Weirdly enough

Some technological things have sentimental value because of having belonged to a much loved dead parent.

How about writing your own post about your anger about stolen land? Because this post has nothing to do with that.
