Social housing

It must be nice to just sign-up for that.... I wish I didn't try. I have the slightest bit too much money so I do not qualify, but work my ass off. I can see why people just quit their jobs and work their way into the permanent "take care of me government!" system.

I have an old coworker who works just enough to get EI, the government caught on, then the pandemic hit. They got CERB by lying, then are now “on disability” and constantly comment about how bad the government is and how they hate capitalism and people with jobs are sheep.
No. People with jobs pay taxes so you can stay at home, get free vaccines and hospitals, and support your social housing. Have some respect.
The middle class is supporting the low income people and honestly I would love UBI because I would stop working too. I would watch the system collapse knowing that me working kept it afloat
Doubt it

I don't think there are a whole lot of people that quit their jobs to qualify. They need to eat, too.
@"take care of me government!" system.

You are dissing the idea of our communities and our nations responsibilities to help and take care of each other. Sure there are many inter-generational trauma survivors who are now have challenged life-skill abilities to take care of themselves, but we must first offer proper compassionate physical survival to them combined with providing real spiritual, emotional and mental help. So please quit making our society worse with your superficial divide and conquer mentality of finger pointing. When you point fingers at others, there are 3 fingers pointing back at you.

You probably wouldn't want to live in "social" housing, there's usually left-handed people living there.

So you genuinely think it just like that huh? As if all it takes is just filling out some paperwork and quitting your job? Then you’ll get a fat cheque and a free house! lol. Reality check: in order to qualify for ANY assistance you really have to be out of options. Disability is extremely difficult to get and even when you do the payment is below poverty level. Any rental subsidy available for the most part doesn’t come close to paying the rent, and the wait lists for those places can be years long. You make it sound like most of the people who receive assistance in any form don’t actually need it just don’t want to work. Boy do you need an education. Maybe before you shoot your mouth off you should get one by speaking with some people who are in that situation and ask them why. It might actually open your eyes and shut your mouth.

I fell into the system you speak of, by losing my health and being totally fucked for going to work.
In these times it is better than living in a tent, but I sure wish I could still get up in the morning and go to a real job.

I wonder if we had the same coworker. I know a couple of people like that actually.

If that makes you upset, wait until you google corporate the tax breaks Canadian corporations get, out of fear they will flee the country to countries with even lower taxes, or that Canada is selling out its vast oil resources to the U.S. and failing to uphold the national interest in ensuring that refineries are built in Canada, with the benefits accruing to Canadians.
Canada is so resource rich, it could provide every Canadian with UBI, but sells out Canadians by giving all its resources away cheap, whole logs go south of the border, bypassing our own mills and Canada even sells Canadian mining assets to foreign corporations. Why doesn't Canada have a sovereign wealth fund like the Norwegians?!
Don't attack the little people, always punch up. I know life can be frustrating, but ask more from your leadership, Canada should resemble Norway not the USA with universal health care.

People who dismiss the unemployed and dependent as ‘parasites’ fail to understand economics and parasitism. A successful parasite is one that is not recognized by its host, one that can make its host work for it without appearing as a burden. Such is the ruling class in a capitalist society -- Jason Read

So does your landlord. If UBI ever comes in that's where it all is going to go.
