That Neighbour

I’ve been dealing with a heavy footed upstairs neighbour for the last 5 months and although it was tolerable at the start with the aid of headphones and ear plugs - I started getting pressure headaches and symptoms of tinnitus.
When I developed an ear infection I decided to cease with this and just endure the noise … but realised how bad the thumping was only with secondary commentary from a friend who was visiting. When I decided to voice my complaint to my building manager.. only did the behaviour from the neighbours escalate and become antagonistic. Thumping, crashing from early evening to early morning - it was constant. It was if they were taking their life’s frustrations out on the flooring. Anyways one night I had enough. I couldn’t go back to bed. I was in this spiral of frustrating energy. So I decided to snoop. Just thru social media I found out information: names, date of birth, places of work , who the rental agent is for the apartment and other minor things. But what was probably the cream of the crop in terms of free information was that fact this person works for a leading specialist in hearing devices for the hearing impaired. What irony.

I'd take them to the CRT. Start documenting the times, types and duration of noise, thumping, and your symptoms etc. Get a good mic like a Snowflake that will pick up the sound and start recording them. There are nuisance bylaws that must be followed. Good luck!

Similar situation, she'd stomp around around all night despite building manager being involved.
Using logic, if she was up all night stomping it mean that she slept all day. And as I worked from home I'd go and hit her door buzzer every half hour- all day long. For a week..and her stomping stopped.
Had another situation- put my stereo in my bedroom, turned the speakers to face upwards, cranked the bass (as bass travels through floors) and left them on low volume all day. The message was received and was quiet after that.

my solution years ago to upstairs neighbours having loud obnoxious drunken fights was to play porn on high volume. not all day but two nights in a row after their last blowout. stopped it cold and no one got hurt. ;-)
Retribution

I had new neighbours who did the same thing and slandered me on our complex’s WhatsApp group, so I refused to pay rent until the management dealt with it. Which they did not, so I broke my lease and got the hell out of there. It cost me $5K and the RTB was not on my side, but I was able to sleep through the night in my new place and it was worth it in the end. This was before rents skyrocketed, however, so if you can’t find anything in your price range, engage in retribution, as some have already stated. Some people should never be allowed to live about others.

YOURE LIVING UNDER SOMEONE. Pay more to live on their floor or move, your rent is much cheaper than theirs for a reason. We all have our price of admission.

So according to you-only look to buy or rent on the penthouse level, right?
Is no issue for me, but I guess you haven't noticed but there's a shortage of housing around and people have to take what they can get.
Bet you're the type that tells laid off 65 year olds to "just learn to code bro"

"Pay more to live on their floor"
How the hell is anyone supposed to know if they're noisy, before renting the place?
