Period

People that have schizophrenia belong in a mental hospital. Homeless people belong in a shelter. People who are homeless, and mentally ill don’t need free drugs. They need to be away from drugs. Period.

about the increasing incoherence these days, but what are the options our society faces? I favour firm but reasonable step by step compassionate solutions. History shows us the alternative of power-tripping authoritarianism always makes things worse. History also shows us the power-tripping perps always end up facing mass justice and hanging upside down on a tree.

How horribly opinionated of you, and very uneducated. Lots and lots of people have well treated schizophrenia that have no need to be in a mental hospital.

I doubt if anyone in government thinks like this.

Missing the point

The whole idea behind making available safe supply is to make first contact, make sure the addicted mentally ill or not mentally ill person doesn't die from poisoned contaminated drugs. Getting them out of this never ending hell and some much needed help, treatment for addiction and mental illness, housing and continued (this is key) supports. Hopefully instilling self respect and security creating a contributing member of society. The cost to the individual and to society at large if we keep on the way we have been is bankrupting. At the very minimum it bankrupts the soul and I would hope we are better than that.

Homeless people don't belong in a shelter. Shelters are temporary places for people without homes. Schizophrenics are all around you leading normal productive lives. Medication often works just fine. Mental hospitals are for people who unable to function in society. Being on drugs is a persons choice, not everyone is an addict who does drugs. Doing hard drugs, and having schizophrenia are two things.

Nobody belongs in a mental hospital

Those places are literal torture chambers that people are forcibly incarcerated in, and then forcibly drugged with some of the most body-destroying, energy-draining, soul-killing and brain-damaging drugs available today, under the disguise of "medicine" and "it's for your own good".

And despite psychiatry spending over 70 (Seventy) years looking for biological markers for so-called "schizophrenia" that would legitimize it as an actual dis-ease, none have ever conclusively been found. Groups of privileged psychiatrists essentially met behind closed doors, gathered a list of behavioral and experiential symptoms, and then decided that if a person has enough of x, y, or z symptoms, that they then have this dis-ease called "schizophrenia". They *invented* the diagnosis -- they didn't discover it somewhere in the body or the mind.

Distressing experiences, extreme altered states, delusions, hallucinations, and uncharacteristic aggression are all very real experiences and behaviors that some people sometimes go through -- but they are changing and (usually) temporary states and behaviors that are expressed by people, not some permanent, static condition or dis-ease.

Nobody belongs in a mental hospital. Nobody deserves to be involuntarily tortured with neurotoxic, mind-altering and body-degrading drugs.
