I have no friends in Vancouver
posted October 2nd, 2011 at 1:11 PM
I am not sure why but I don't seem to have any friends in Vancouver. I ve lived in California, London, and Tokyo and I have a lot of friends there. Its as if everyone already seems to have a full group here. I am not sure if the problems me or if its everyone else. I am talking about real friends not Facebook or Twitter friends.

It isn't you. It is this City. There are so many outdoorsy people off on their own at all times, it is staggering.
Take heart! There are things you can do. Try getting involved in charitable organizations or join in to sporting events. Check out your local community centre for the best options on both! I think you will find that every bit of effort you invest will be rewarded tenfold with new friendships. And ... welcome to Vancouver.

I totally feel you on this. I don't know why but it's always been difficult for me to make friends here, and I grew up here. But as soon as I move or travel somewhere different it is a breeze to strike up new, lasting friendships. And whenever I do happen to make a new friend in Vancouver, it always turns out that they just moved here from the States or some other country, or they are tourists.

I completely understand and went through the same thing. I spent 6yrs in Vancouver and can count on one hand how many actual "friends" I made. Now I'm living in Ontario and 4 weeks later have met so many awesome people and made some great friends. Not to say there isn't wonderful people in Vancouver it just seems to take a little more to meet them. I agree with James, get involved with something and meet people that way.

Hi ! Same for me ( I'm new in the city too). I've met several people on the street but it's just for a talk or taking coffee there is nothing after, they don't need to meet me again :(
Try meet up dot com (keyword to help you found one great : looking for friend) to meet more people and build friendship based on the same interest
I hope things will get better for you !
New girl in Vancouver too

I too have lived in several different cities in Canada and the USA. Vancouver is so different. I dont get it!. When you are attractive they think you are hitting on them and want to hook up. If you are just friendly they think you are desperate, or have alternative motives. lol
I think James is right. too many outdoors people that choose interests and hobbies that are individual ones. Take for example runners; they are always wearing headphone, or even in the gym.
They say Vancouver has so many single men and women, and so many (check out online sites) are claiming they want to meet someone, but no one is available or actually wants to do that.
I don't think the single people here know what they want, therefore YOU will never get what you don't know you want.
as for Mat and Fish out of water,
I love Ontario too.To be honest, every guy that I have met in town has been from Ontario in Vancouver on business.
Don't tell me that Ontario people aren't friendly, They ROCK!
Thank goodness we can text til their next visit. lol

I've been here a yr, originally from another Canadian city. I have not made many friends...seems that people are cliquey and fake. Everyone seems so blah...must be the non-stop 24/7 rain and grey clouds.

I am from here and find it so much harder to make friends than any other place I have lived.
Not a newcomer

I can totally feel what you guys are saying. I don't have any friends myself. It makes me so sad when I scroll through my phone wanting to just call a friend and get to the bottom of the list and realize I don't have anybody to call. I really just want a genuine friend..
