Stop the ageism

Why do people have to be such ageists? I am a very outgoing person who meets a lot of people when I go out at night. I get in great conversations often, that are certainly not boring and keep the girl interested, laughing and having a good time. It goes well usually until they find out I am 24 years old when they are in their later 20's or very early 30's. It seems as these people I meet are the type of people I would go for or at the very least just hang out with and be friends. But they just shut down their body language and what was a good conversation becomes one where they seem to be looking for the eject button. I try not to assume or judge people based on their age and I wish people would do the same about me.

I get this all the time. I am chatting with a young lady, perhaps 22-26 years of age, I appear to be in my late twenties but, when my real age is revealed, the body language immediately changes and and they are looking for an exit. I am 36 and I can't help it if I look younger.

I was a "cougar". Perhaps these ladies just don't want to look old next to you. I usually don't have a problem dating someone younger as long as they don't look younger. Luckily, I look young for my age. I'll be 30 in a few months, earlier this year I met a guy during my travels, we hung out and had lots of fun. He is an amazing 24 year old man (I thought he was older), I thought I'd be too old for him, but he made a move on me and I'm so glad he did! Now we're oceans apart and I miss him so much!

@ Old Man - maybe 36 is too close to 40? =T Perhaps they think you're at an age where you may want to settle and they're not ready for a guy who wants to settle.

@ I didn't know - With all due respect, should I wear a t-shirt that says "Geriatric"? I mean I get girls from their late teens to late 20's flirting or making eyes at me all the time.

Everyone has their dealbreakers, and everyone has something about their self that is a dealbreaker for other people. End of the day, these people just simply weren't the right people for you. You seem to value keeping an open mind, and they obviously do not, so you don't even have the same values. Move on.
