Some things in life are just meant to be together: peanut butter and jelly, Beyoncé and Jay Z, and our personal favourite, sunshine and beer. And while a sturdy umbrella and a pint—or two—of ale has helped us endure the chilly winter months, nothing beats a cold beer in the great outdoors.
We certainly don’t need any encouragement to start thinking about the warmer weather—the good times and did we mention the beer? —and we are already eagerly anticipating the event that officially kicks off the summer: the Great Okanagan Beer Festival (GOBF).
For the fourth year running GOBF returns to Waterfront Park in Kelowna, bringing with it live music, food trucks, interactive games, exhibitor booths, and of course, beer. Taking place May 10 to 12, organizers promise that this year’s festival will be the best one yet.
But really, with 65 breweries and 130 craft beers and ciders to sample, all nestled on the beautiful beaches of Okanagan Lake and right in the heart of downtown Kelowna, it’s no surprise that the main event attracts over 3,000 people every year.
And even if beer’s not your thing, Tara Myers, partnerships and events manager, explains that GOBF has something for everyone.
“A festival like ours offers up so many different varieties. Even if you think you’re not into beer, I bet you any money you’d find at least a few at the festival that you’d enjoy. There are so many different types and all the breweries are so knowledgeable as well. You can tell them what you’re into and not into and they can point you in the direction of something you’ll like. And, we have ciders!”
Sunshine, the lake, live music, eats, and brews. What’s not to love?
The full festival schedule complete with live music, bowling, tap takeovers, speciality menus, and more is growing and available here. Main Event tickets (general admission or a limited number of all access passes) are available online now.
As if we needed any further incentive, Gibbons Whistler is also giving away four general admission tickets—each of which includes free access to the event and three beer tokens—in addition to a $100 gift card to festival sponsor and official after party spot, the Train Station Pub, to one lucky winner.
And we say cheers to that!
- Four general admission tickets to GOBF (valued at $45 each)
- A $100 gift card to the Train Station Pub within walking distance of the Main Event
