50 years after Stonewall and the Canadian decriminalization of homosexuality, QAF 2019 rEvolution gathers together urgent voices of resistance to the growing backlash: art as the evolution of the revolution. Festival highlights include: The Queen in Me, June 21-22 where soprano Teiya Kasahara 笠原貞野 explodes operatic expectations and explores the constraints of conventional opera roles; and Queer Songbook Orchestra, an unearthing of queer backstories inspired by music of the past, leading into Stonewall 50: Glitter is Forever, QAF’s final blowout that gathers our communities together to revel in a half-century of queerevolution.
