Effective today (December 13), the University of Victoria is not holding in-person exams.

The academic institution has also asked instructors to offer exams online or in another format.

This is in response to a rising number of COVID-19 infections on Vancouver Island. On Friday (December 10), the Ministry of Health stated that there are 664 active cases in the Island Health region. It now ranks second behind Fraser Health in the number of active cases in the province.

"UVic has made this decision in consultation with Island Health," UVic said in a statement on its website. "Throughout the fall academic term, UVic has worked closely with government and public health experts to keep the university community healthy and safe, while delivering on our academic mission of teaching, learning, research and community engagement."

UBC and SFU continue to hold in-class examinations.
