As the coronavirus pandemic continues on, one of British Columbia’s largest fitness chains has made an unexpected announcement.
Steve Nash Fitness World and Sports Club previously announced on March 17 that it would temporarily close its 24 locations until March 31 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
All memberships had been frozen and the company added that all staff would be paid during this time period. Online fitness instruction was being offered through their social media and website.
However, the company’s management team announced today (March 25) on its social media as well on its website that it has decided to "let go of our valued team members" as the company undergoes “organizational restructuring”.
The website message also states that updates will be provided as the company monitors the situation and continues to refer to their current status as a “temporary closure”.
According to several reports, staff received emails from human resources that they had been "terminated" as of March 24.
The company has 24 locations across B.C., including Victoria, Nanaimo, and Kelowna.
In the Lower Mainland, it has locations in Vancouver, North Vancouver, West Vancouver, Richmond, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Surrey, Delta, Langley, and Abbotsford.
Previously, Vancouver’s Semperviva Yoga announced on on March 18 that it was shutting down its four locations after 25 years in operation due to the financial strain caused by the pandemic.
