What is your medium of choice and why?

I work in a variety of disciplines, but in my most recent work I’ve returned to painting in oil. It’s the medium I first started with and I’ve always been attracted to its ability to transmute into different objects and textures. There’s a rich, juicy quality to the paint and the depth of its pigments can’t be replicated.

Where do you find your inspiration?

As a painter, my work has been directly informed by the way artists such as Edward Hopper utilized light and form. My newest series (2018) continues earlier themes that touched on redemption and transformation.

Birth. Transference. Waste. Something in the corner of the shed tucked away for further reflection. Questions of origin and of order and the ultimate destruction of myths. Grace and metamorphosis. Nature overcoming structure.

What new works will you have at the crawl?

I’m excited to show off my newest oil paintings. They’re very East Vancouver – there’s a lot of foliage and a little bit of neglect. I think they’re beautiful.
