The UBC School of Journalism, Writing, and Media will present an online lecture by Angela Sterritt on Tuesday, October 27.
Sterritt, a journalist from the Gitxsan Nation, is known for her CBC column Reconcile THIS, which explores the tensions between Indigenous people and institutions. In her recent work she has delved into the ways in which bias is situated for journalists.
"Sterritt aspires to reveal a cultural partiality in Canada and stir thoughts about our unconscious worldviews," reads the information on the event. "She will share highlights of a reckoning we are seeing in media to address imbalances and look at the risks involved for those who push to seek change."
More details on the free talk, which will be moderated by UBC associate professor Candis Callison, can be found here.
