A second B.C. research university might soon be requiring people to wear masks indoors.

Today, the University of Victoria senate voted 23-19 in favour of a motion asking the president and board of governments to reinstate a mask mandate immediately, according to the Martlet student newspaper.

Under the University Act, academic governance is vested in the senate.

UVic dropped its mask mandate on March 11, a day after Dr. Bonnie Henry ended provincial mask mandates.

Simon Fraser University and the University of Northern British Columbia also cancelled their mask mandates after Henry's announcement.

The University of British Columbia, on the other hand, retained its mask mandate. The province allows employers to set their own rules.
