Mobile games from Apple Arcade to keep you busy

    1 of 11 2 of 11

Apple has been offering a free 30-day trial of their arcade that offers more than 100 games. With a catalogue that deep, there is something for everyone. Although it’s hard to pull yourself away from social media, it’s important to also practise a little social-media distancing.

      LEGO Builders Journey

This is LEGO’s take on a puzzle game. You use your bricklaying expertise to move your character through a series of levels with a nice little story to help move the game along. The gameplay is easy to use and gives you lots of the freedoms you’d expect with LEGO. This includes the ability to rotate your diorama to find your solutions to the puzzles.

Oceanhorn 2: Knights of the Lost Realm

The first Oceanhorn was fantastic. The story had you grow from a boy to a warrior, and Oceanhorn 2 picks up where the hero left off in the first game. You have to battle evil hordes to defeat Warlock Mesmeroth with the help of a samurai robot named Gen and a girl named Trin. You won’t just be hacking and slashing throughout the entire game. The gamemakers have sprinkled in some puzzles to mix the gameplay up a bit. This game plays really well and has clearly been inspired by Zelda.

      Super Mega Mini Party

RPG and puzzle games aren’t your thing? Check out Super Mega Mini Party. This cute little game is filled with fun and challenging minigames that you can play solo or in a party. The game allows you to either link up with friends or join a random party. The minigames are timed challenges, and it’s fun to try to last longer and be faster each time. Spruce Lee and Penguin Plop are a couple of my personal favourites.

      Skate City

Whether you’re a skater or not, Skate City is easy to use and will make you feel like you’ve been skating for years. The game is stylistically pretty and simple. There are lots of trick combinations, rails, gaps, and ledges to hit, and since we’re not going outside much these days, this game will give you a little taste of going for a skate.

      Where Cards Fall

First of all, this is a beautiful game. The clean and stylistic art design sucks you right in. This game has you guide your unnamed character through levels wherein you have to stack and move cards around to get your hero where he needs to go. The gameplay is simple and easy to navigate. If you don’t have a console, this is a great supplement as far as playing artistically sophisticated games go.

      Pac-Man Party Royale

Pac-Man Party Royale is a unique take on the classic Pac-Man game. The game starts like the usual Pac-Man game, where you compete to gobble up as many dots as you can, but the twist here is that once you get hit by a ghost, you become the ghost and chase after other Pac-Men on the board. You can play solo or in a party.

      Tint

If you’re in the mood for something a little more relaxing, give Tint a try. This game is basically digital fingerpainting where you complete painting challenges one page at a time. It’s a simple but pretty game and a good little time waster.

      The Pinball Wizard

This game has the pinball essentials, but with a twist: this version of pinball has a story. You have to enter a tower and restore the power of the Eye. Once you complete the power, the land will be at peace at last. When you’re in "the tower", you pinball your character around, defeating slimes and collecting things you need for your quest. It’s easy to play with some rewarding challenges.

      Butter Royale

Looking for a family-friendly Fortnite-style game? Look no further than Butter Royale. Thirty-two players get dropped into a suburban city space and then it’s every player for themselves. You gather up your weapons to defend yourself as the battlefield gets smaller and smaller. Sounds violent, but what you’re shooting at each other is hot dogs, popcorn, and baguettes. Best of all is that there are no in-app purchases to worry about.

      Inmost

The first thing you’ll want to do when you start this game is to put your headphones on. This story-driven puzzler won’t be for everyone, but once you get the hang of the controls, you’ll be glad you stuck it out. This game is moody, dark, and full of challenges. There are three playable characters with an abandoned castle in common. You’ll have to solve puzzles and fight your way out, facing traps and enemies at every turn.

There are 104 more games to explore in Apple Arcade and there is sure to be something that piques your interest. If not, there are games like Words With Friends and Clash of Clans to which people have flocked back. See the full list of Apple Arcade games here.
