The NBA 2K League will take a huge step forward tonight when it’s officially embraced by Canadian television broadcasters.

From 7 to 9 EST, Sportsnet One and Sportsnet NOW will begin showing, for the first time ever on TV, NBA 2K games. The broadcasts will feature five-on-five play in a best-of-three format throughout the spring and summer.

The first eSports league backed and operated by the big four of traditional North American sports, NBA 2K features professional gamers from across the continent and beyond. Six Canadians are rostered on the 23 teams, making the Great White North the second most-represented country player-wise for the third straight year.

Matches, featuring competition by remote, will also be broadcast on Twitch and YouTube.

In the next six weeks all 23 teams, including Toronto’s Raptors Uprising GC, will step onto the virtual hardwood.

This season sees the addition of two new teams: the Charlotte Hornet-backed Hornets Venom GT, and the Gen.G Tigers (the first squad not based in North America).
