When the International Coffee Tasting Awards were held from December 4 to 5 in Guangzhou, China, Vancouver's Milano Coffee was once again deemed one of the leading coffeemakers in the world.

Nine countries—Australia, Canada, China, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Spain, Taiwan, and Thailand—took part in the competition and were judged by a panel of 28 members of the International Institute of Coffee Tasters.

Milano has previously won 10 gold medals over the past six years at the competition for blends such as La Futura, Butter, Velvet, Miscela Royale, Nuovo, Lucky 13, Cognac, Suave Rico, New Italian, and Franks.

This time around, 39 gold medals were awarded and Milano Coffee brought home two of them for their Silk Lili and Concept No. 9 espresso blends.

Milano owners Brian and Linda Turko are inviting locals to try their winning blends on Thursday (January 25) from noon to 4 p.m. at their 156 West 8th Avenue location as they chat about the details of their blends.

Coffee lovers can also look forward to their collaboration with Tree Island Gourmet Yogurt (based in Courtenay, B.C.) when they launch an espresso Greek yogurt (6.5 percent milk fat). It'll be available for approximately $5.99 (325 grams) in March at Milano cafés, Choices Market, Whole Foods, Urban Fare, Nesters Market, and any stores where Tree Island products are available.

Milano Coffee has locations in Vancouver; Comox, B.C.; and Toronto.
