U.S. burger chain Caliburger closed its downtown Vancouver location in December 2017, but announced plans to reappear in the Metro Vancouver market this year.

The California-style burger outlet officially opened the doors to its new location (8901 Cornerstone Mews) at Simon Fraser University’s Burnaby campus this morning.

According to a press release, the shop boasts artificial intelligence-enabled self-ordering kiosks that feature facial recognition software to identify registered customers.

"Face-based loyalty significantly reduces the friction associated with loyalty program registration and use,” said John Miller, chairman and CEO of Cali Group, in a press statement. “Further, it enables a restaurant chain like Caliburger to provide a customized, one-on-one interactive experience at the ordering kiosk.”

It’ll be a unique way of recruiting and attracting loyal customers, especially with a younger crowd in the area that will likely be more curious about the new technology.

As for the food, popular menu items include premium beef and chicken burgers with housemade sauces, fries topped with a signature dressing and melted cheese, as well as hand-mixed milkshakes.

We’re sure that hungry students will appreciate another eatery on campus, especially during midterm and final exam season when late night study sessions are almost unavoidable.

Caliburger has plans to open up another spot near Surrey’s Guildford Town Centre (10330 152nd Street) this summer.
