Waffle-lovers take note: two well-loved food spots in Vancouver are teaming up for a unique twist on a popular brunch item.

Renowned chocolatier Thomas Haas is collaborating with Café Medina (780 Richards Street) by bringing its “Haaselnut” spread to the breakfast spot. The limited edition waffle topping is made with caramelized Fraser Valley hazelnuts, 64 percent Valrhona dark chocolate, Irish butter, and fleur de sel.

The special feature will be available from March 19 to 25; on International Waffle Day (March 25), one dollar from each waffle sold will go toward Mealshare—a non-profit organization that provides meals for youth in need.

“Beyond a reason to celebrate our signature waffles, this event gives our staff yet another opportunity to reaffirm our ongoing commitment to Mealshare and spotlight the good work that it does in our community every day,” said Robbie Kane, owner of Café Medina, in a press statement. “I’m also excited to be able to collaborate with an impressive culinary talent like Thomas and bring his recipe to the menu for an exclusive engagement.”

Café Medina’s Liège-style waffles are part of the reason why there’s almost always a line-up outside its doors, especially on weekends. Other mouth-watering waffle toppings include sauces like milk chocolate lavender, salted caramel, mixed berry compote, and white chocolate pistachio rosewater.
