North Vancouver’s first Whole Foods Market is opening on Thursday (April 26).

Located in the Centreview building on Londsale (120 East 13th Avenue), the 40,000-square-foot space has floor-to-ceiling windows and design elements that speak to the North Shore’s rugged outdoors. It's rolling out products like a dry-aged beef, hand-cut Parmesan Reggiano, wood-fired pizza, and sustainable seafood, including sea bass and salmon smoked in house with a blend of cedar, alder, maple, and cherry woods.

As at other outlets, local suppliers include Greenbelt Microgreens (which has a farm in Maple Ridge and grows organic early-stage greens and vegetables like arugula, pea shoots, sunflowers, broccoli and radishes), Terra Breads, Tree Island Yogurt, Salt Spring Island Goat Cheese, Lisa Lou’s Chocolates, and Patisserie Lebeau, whose Belgian waffles can be dipped in chocolate.

Self-serve Mochi ice cream is also on offer. The crazily popular Japanese frozen dessert consists of chewy, sweet rice dough in pastel colours wrapped around mounds of ice cream.

The Amazon-owned store will also be home to the Iron Keel. Taking its name from North Van’s shipping history, the licensed café offers lights bites such open-face tartines on heritage sourdough levain bread and pickled okra, Brussels sprouts, and chipotle carrots.

Selections of beer on tap ($6 per pint) come from local breweries, including North Van’s Black Kettle and Yellow Dog, Delta’s Four Winds, Richmond’s Fuggles & Warlock Craftworks, and Vancouver’s Doan’s, among others; draft cider is from Summerland’s Dominion Cider Co.

Look for wines by the glass ($6 for 6 ounces) from Road 13, Mission Hill, Gray Monk, Jackson-Triggs, and Fern Walk.

Happy Hour runs weekdays from 4 to 7 p.m.

Naturally, there’s a kombucha bar, too, with flavours from Brew Dr. Kombucha like Clear Mind (rosemary, mint, sage and green tea), Ginger Turmeric, and Love (jasmine green tea, lavender, chamomile, and rose) available ($3.99 for 14 ounces or $7.49 for 32).

The store’s regular hours are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. (It opens at 9 a.m. on opening day.)
