Starbucks chalkboard riddle riles customer

A reader emailed this photo (see above), which was taken in the Starbucks at the corner of Main Street and Terminal Avenue in Vancouver.

It appears to make a joke out of killing a woman.

The outlet is a block from the family-friendly Science World and not far from where serial killer Robert William Pickton used to prey on marginalized sex workers.

And the riddle has appeared after Starbucks Canada announced that it would close all of its stores on June 11 so employees can undergo "sensitivity training".

Here's the gruesome answer to the riddle, which was on the back of the blackboard.

“We must never be complacent in our desire to be inclusive and to live our Mission and Values in every community we serve," Starbucks Canada assured the public in its May 4 statement. "It’s also important that our partners are supported and have the clarity they need to create a culture of warmth and belonging every time."

The chalkboard riddle also appeared on the same day that Starbucks stores closed across the United States so that employees could take sensitivity training.

Head office ordered this to occur after two African American men were arrested in a Philadelphia Starbucks for sitting down, using the bathroom, and not ordering coffee.

      Update:

After this story appeared on this website, Starbucks Canada contacted the Straight to say the sign has been taken down.
