A recent wave of new restaurant openings in the West End has primarily been establishments serving Italian, Japanese, or Indian cuisine.

Of the latter, two forthcoming additions are Horn OK Please and Mumbai Local. And now a third new spot is on the way.

Dosa and Curry on Davie is preparing to open within the Davie Village at 1188 Davie Street, the former location of another South Asian eatery, Judge's Indian Cuisine.

Located a block away from Davie Dosa Company at 1235 Davie Street, which opened in October, Dosa and Curry on Davie is slated to feature Davie Dosa Company's former chef Leveil Arockiasamy.

As their name indicates, their main focus is on dosas and curries, though the menu does venture beyond and also features Indo-Chinese cuisine.

The dosa selection runs a varied range, covering everything from lamb, chicken and spinach, prawn, or beef to numerous vegetarian options including Mysore masala, ghee roast, onion rava, okra, eggplant, cauliflower, cheese and garlic, and more.

When it comes to curries ($10 to $17), the good news for vegetarians is that the number of plant-based options is almost as numerous as the meat varieties.

Vegetable curries include such selections as yellow lentils, chickpea, eggplant tamarind, kadai okra, cilantro-based kothamir sabji korma, mushroom matar Chettinadu, and more.

Seafood and chicken curries range from Madras fish or prawn masala to butter chicken, chicken korma, or palak chicken. Lamb and beef varieties include lamb palak, kothamir lamb korma, and beef vindaloo.

Other South Indian offerings include oothappam (also known as uttapam), a thick pancake-like dosa, and kothu parotta, a meat-based dish served on a layered flatbread.

Chinese-influenced dishes include Szechuan noodles and fried rice.

Soups, samosas, pakoras, and various appetizers round out the menu.

Although the restaurant was scheduled to open on July 1, it has not opened yet. The Georgia Straight has contacted the restaurant for more information.
