This is one of those days when you realize how far Vancouver has come in the past decade.

In Kitsilano, tens of thousands have gathered for the free West 4th Avenue Khatsahlano Street Party. It's going to culminate in the return of rocker Bif Naked to Vancouver.

There have also been free performances in the West End and on Granville Island as part of the 30th anniversary edition of Vancouver's Dancing on the Edge Festival.

Tonight, there are two more Dancing on the Edge events at the Firehall Arts Centre and another one at the Scotiabank Dance Centre.

In case you weren't aware, Vancouver has become an internationally recognized centre for excellence in dance, thanks in part to this festival, not to mention all the talented local companies.

The Indian Summer Festival is in also underway, with literary and musical events taking place tonight at the Imperial. One of the events is being curated by CBC Radio's Jarrett Martineau, host of Reclaimed.

And Vancouver's own Latin American plaza, a.k.a. Carnival del Sol, continues at Concord Pacific Place through the end of Sunday (July 8) with plenty of Latin-infused music to go along with all of those empanadas, chorizo, chilatole, and other treats.

That's to say nothing of FVDED in the Park, the two-day EDM extravaganza wrapping up tonight in Holland Park in Surrey.

Below, you can see some the things being said on social media about Khats and FVDED, which are two of the largest musical events of the year in the region.
