For patrons in a Browns Socialhouse in Surrey, there was a happy ending on Sunday (August 12) to a frightening situation.

A man allegedly told staff that he had a bomb, prompting a massive RCMP response.

After he was arrested, no explosives were found on the premises.

Surrey resident Mohammed Shalmeen Gafoor, 43, has been charged with three counts of uttering threats, three counts of unlawful confinement, and one count of mischief.

“This was a very traumatic event for patrons and employees of the restaurant,” RCMP Staff Sgt. Kirk Duncan said in a news release. “The calm and collected demeanour of the dispatcher combined with the quick response and actions of the responding officers enabled this incident to be resolved quickly and safely.”

Nobody was injured in the incident, which occurred near the corner of King George Boulevard and 96th Avenue.
