Quite a number of Italian restaurants have recently opened up in Vancouver's West End over the past few months, including Centro, Pacifico Pizza, and the Italians Kitchen and Bar.

Riding along with this Mediterranean wave is a new entry preparing to open in the Davie Village.

Italian Tomato, which has a location at 8380 Bridgeport Road in Richmond, will open its second restaurant at 1047 Davie Street, in the former premises of Priscillia's Restaurant.

Their extensive menu covers a variety of Italian classics, and then some.

Pasta is available with four main categories of sauces: sugo di pomodoro (red sauce), alla panna (cream sauce), con aglio e olio (extra virgin olive oil), or sugo di pomodoro cremoso (rosé sauce).

There's a wide range of selections covering everything from vongole (baby clams, garlic in cream or tomato sauce), paesana (baby shrimp, baby clams, baby scallops, and smoked salmon in a dill cream sauce), or Da Vinci (chicken breast, tomatoes, spinach, and asiago cheese in a garlic cream sauce) to aglio olio pepperoncini (basil, Italian parsley, chili pepper in a garlic olive oil white wine sauce) or alla vodka (Italian salami, onions, vodka in tomato sauce with cream).

Specialities ($16 to $38) include lobster ravioli, spinach and ricotta cheese cannelloni, casa di amore (assorted shellfish in tomato sauce with mozzarella cheese and pasta), pollo alla diavola (roasted spicy marinated chicken breast with pasta), and more.

      There's also a range of thin-crust pizza ($15 to $18) and calzones ($18).
