Cacao Upstairs: Kitsilano’s progressive Latin eatery launches second-floor spot

Cacao (1898 West 1st Avenue) made its debut in Kitsilano almost two years ago, sharing its progressive Latin cuisine with those in the neighbourhood and beyond.

The popular dining establishment is officially launching Cacao Upstairs today (August 22), which is a 20-seat eatery and bar that occupies the floor directly above its original space. It will be a more casual extension of its sister restaurant, focusing on sharing plates and signature libations.

Guests will find a bar area and cozy tables, and a menu that offers artisanal charcuterie, local cheeses, and seasonal dishes.

Some of the culinary creations that you’ll find at the new spot include ceviche, smoked elk tartare, octopus, and seafood paella, among others.

A selection of house cocktails will be on offer, such as Agua Rosa (vodka, hibiscus tea, Malbec reduction, dry cassis, aromatic bitters, and lemon juice) and Marshmallow Redemption (tequila, pineapple and oregano sorbet, coconut cream, and cardamom syrup).

Non-alcoholic drinks include wild elderflower tonic and house-made kombucha.

We don’t know about you, but a restaurant within a restaurant sounds like a pretty great idea.
