Vancouver like Thai food, and so does Bob. And since Vancouver likes Bob, a third location of the local chainlet Bob Like Thai Food is preparing to open in East Vancouver.
Owner Tai Keattivanichvily is readying a new location at an approximately 2,400-square-foot space 987 East Hastings Street (at Raymur Avenue) that will seat about 78 patrons.
Keattivanichvily told the Georgia Straight that this new spot, which he's aiming to open in late fall, will be similar to his other two locations but will have more Isan-style selections from northeastern Thailand on the menu.
He added that this venue will take on a retro theme, to recreate food shops from Bangkok in the 1970s and '80s, including dishes made fresh at the table, Thai street coffee, and old-school equipment, such as a sugar-cane press and a hand-cranked ice shaving machine.
The first Bob Likes Thai Food opened on Main Street (at 21st Avenue) in October 2010, followed by the West Broadway location (at Granville Street) in October 2012.
The menu at current Bob Likes Thai Food locations includes small plates, curry, noodles, and stir-fry, including dishes such as tom yum koong, roasted duck red curry, swimming rama, pork pad ka pow, pad Thai, and even Bob's poutine (with green curry).
