If you live in Vancouver, there’s only a slim chance that you’ve never tried aburi (flame-seared) sushi before. Thanks to a Japanese establishment that opened up in the city 10 years ago, we’ve been able to find various copies of these delicious compressed bites around town.

The original aburi sushi purveyor, Miku restaurant (70-200 Granville Street), will be celebrating its decade-long presence with a special anniversary tasting menu next month.

Its kaiseki (traditional multicourse Japanese meal) menu ($110 per person) will be available from October 1 to 30. Guests will be able to indulge in six courses, which includes aburi sushi, aburi premium nigiri, as well as modern Japanese dishes.

“It has been incredible to see the growth of Miku and Aburi Restaurants Group these short 10 years,” Seigo Nakamura, owner of Aburi Restaurants Group (Miku, Minami, and Gyoza Bar), said in a press statement. “I am very humbled by the fact that we were able to create a new trend in Canada with aburi sushi [and] I’m excited to share with everyone what we have planned next for Aburi!”

The tasting menu starts off with an amuse bouche: waygu beef carpaccio. Guests will also get to taste everything from lobster bouillabaisse to filet mignon to fresh sashimi to a variety of signature sushi.

For dessert, a matcha Grand Marnier tiramisu will be served—think liquor-infused matcha almond sponge with mascarpone mousse, vanilla sablé (French shortbread cookie), and white coffee ice cream.

Optional premium sake pairings are available for an additional $50. To top it all off, each guest will be gifted a set of Miku’s chopsticks and rock stand, while supplies last.
