Ever since the popular Lolita’s South of the Border Cantina decided to call it quits after 12 years at 1326 Davie Street, successors have struggled to find their footing in its wake.

Lolita’s, which opened in 2005 and often packed in patrons with its Mexican cuisine, closed down in April 2017.

Keeping with the Mexican-inspired theme, vegetarian taco shop Lucha Verde followed, opening in June 2017 and offering a concise menu of plant-based tacos, appetizers, casual bites, and more, along with libations and desserts.

The location was one of the only vegetarian-focused eateries in the neighbourhood.

Alas, the new venture failed to resonate with customers, and went up for sale in April of this year.

In July, another taco shop decided to take a stab at making a go of it: Tormenta Taco Bar.

With a name meaning storm in Spanish and retaining the lightning-bolt iconography of its predecessor, the new shop offered range of six tacos that spanned meat, seafood, and vegetables, along with snacking items, cocktails, and some casual-themed items, including trailer park nachos and ballpark tacos.

But it turns out that lightning struck out twice. It turns out that this new direction failed to weather the market as well, as it has since gone permanently dark.

Now, Kinara Indian Cuisine has announced with new signage that it is poised to take its place. Details are currently unavailable about this new establishment.

However, the forthcoming spot joins a recent wave of South Asian eateries that have opened up in the West End, including Mumbai Local, Horn OK Please, and Dosa and Curry.

Meanwhile, a few blocks away, Guu Izakaya is preparing to open a new location in the Davie Village.
