A Hong Kong chain has taken up residence in the West End with its extensive array of fruit-based desserts and beverages.

Hui Lau Shan has opened its second location in Vancouver at 907 Denman Street in the West End. It takes over the former location of frozen yogurt and waffle shop Styo Dessert, which closed on July 14.

The company opened in Hong Kong in the 1960s. Although it began by specializing in Chinese herbal tea and herbal jelly, it expanded to incorporate desserts in the 1980s. It has expanded internationally, with locations in Malaysia, Taiwan, South Korea, and Vietnam.

In Canada, the dessert chain has a location in Toronto and one in Kerrisdale at 5971 West Boulevard, with a forthcoming spot to open up within T&T Supermarket at Lansdowne Centre in Richmond.

Other specialities include black glutinous rice with taro paste, stewed sea coconut with papaya, tong sui–style desserts, and several others.

Drinks include mango and coconut juice with various additions such as sago pearls, herbal jelly, aloe jelly, or red bean; bird's nest and honey jelly with watermelon juice; and more.
