Lovers of fine Scotch and other whiskies could be found in large numbers this morning outside the liquor store at Cambie Street and West 39th Avenue.

They were assembling in advance of the B.C. Liquor Stores premium spirits release today, which also took place at 30 other locations around the province.

One of the big attractions on display was a Bowmore 1966 Edition 50 Year Old Whisky.

It retails for a mere $30,500.

"Our spirit release offers a diverse range of wonderfully crafted products to suit any buyer," Adele Shaw, BCLS category manager for spirits, said in a news release. "This year's collection is an opportunity to explore the ever-changing world of whisky and spirits, with products for both the budding enthusiast and the avid collector, and is the perfect shopping opportunity for the holiday season."
