False Creek’s popular Ancora Waterfront Dining and Patio has officially opened its second location, this time on the North Shore’s Ambleside Beach district (1351 Bellevue Avenue).
The 104 seat restaurant, which can also accommodate an additional 38 on its heated patio, features an upscale interior with simple, neutral tones.
Guests will find plenty of wooden elements, a marble-top bar, and sleek upholstered seating. With high ceilings and waterfront views, we don’t doubt that it will be a regularly packed eatery.
As for the menu, guests will find Ancora’s signature Peruvian-meets-Japanese culinary creations made by its kitchen team led by executive chef Ricardo Valverde. Its Nikkei-style cuisine (blending of Japanese and Peruvian flavours) encompasses many seafood-forward plates, as well as items that feature South American flavours.
Ceviche, sashimi, and nigiri can be found on its raw bar menu, while its dinner menu offers numbers like nori-crusted bigeye tuna, grilled octopus anticucho (inexpensive meat dishes), aji panca (Peruvian pepper)-glazed sablefish, and Hokkaido scallops and pork belly.
Seasonally inspired cocktails pair well with the unique flavours found at the restaurant, and a large selection of red and white wines is also available.
“We couldn’t think of a better spot to bring the Ancora experience to the North Shore,” said Steve Edwards, general manager of the newly opened restaurant, in a press statement. “We look forward to introducing our guests to a menu that embraces the harmony of Peruvian and Japanese cuisines while incorporating the bounty of local ingredients available to us on the West Coast.”
