If you’re looking for somewhere to take your dinner date tonight (January 14), there’s Fare: For the Human Right to Healthy Food, a six-course collaboration dinner at Torafuku Asian Eatery (958 Main Street).

Proceeds from each ticket will benefit DTES Neighbourhood House’s healthy food programs.

Torafuku chef and co-owner Clement Chan was motivated by the DTES Neighbourhood House’s need to secure more funding and so reached out to his chef community to create a dinner that would support these initiatives in a meaningful way.

“We live and work in East Van, a community made up of real people, many of whom don’t benefit from this neighbourhood the same way we do” Chan said in a release. “We wanted to do something that would provide our neighbours access to healthy food.”

All proceeds from the Fare dinner will go toward programs that promote the right to quality, healthy food for all, especially those who experience marginalization and are often excluded from accessing real and healthy food.

Funds will be used to serve 75 nutritious meals, distribute 640 bananas, or make 150 real fruit smoothies.

Joining Chan are Sandy Chen (Torafuku), Douglas Chang (Ai & Om Knives), Warren Chow (Juniper Kitchen & Bar), Jason Harris (Colette Grand Café), Will Lew (Notch 8 at The Hotel Vancouver), Colin Staus (Campagnolo), and Alessandro Vianello.

On the menu are Chang’s ginger steamed crab with black vinegar and egg flan; Lew’s “scallops by moonlight”, which consists of maple-soy smoked scallop, Fanny Bay oyster foam, salmon bacon, geoduck, sake and yuzu clouds; a wild mushroom tart with sunchoke, asparagus, and spruce-tip vinegar by Chow; chocolate tart by Chan and Chen with passionfruit gelée, orange pekoe ice cream, chocolate truffle; and much more.

The DTES Neighbourhood House offers programming that benefits children, families, seniors, and other individual at risk for isolation by creating a welcoming space for convening, learning, and community and leadership development.

Fare sponsors include Strange Fellows Brewing, 33 Acres Brewing Co., Odd Society Spirits, Oyster & King, Kettle Valley Winery, Orofino Winery, Pentage Winery, and Stag’s Hallow Winery.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. for the 7 p.m. event. Tickets, $150, are available here. A donation receipt of $85 can be issued upon request.
