Vancouver’s very own comedy icons Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg were in town last week to unveil their Canada’s Walk of Fame local Hometown Stars.

The Straight had the chance to speak with the funny duo, and they revealed to us their favourite items to eat at popular food attractions around town, including the Richmond Night Market (8351 River Road) and Granville Island Public Market (1669 Johnston Street).

“The grilled squid is great,” Rogen told the Straight at the Vancouver Convention Centre after his and Goldberg’s star-unveiling ceremony. “When Phnom Penh had their wing stand there, that was really, really, really good also.”

It’s not a secret that Rogen adores the Richmond Night Market—he declared his love for the seasonal food spot after the New York Times published a piece on Richmond being home to the best Chinese food in North America.

“The spirally potato chips [hurricane potatoes] are pretty simple but good, but I like the octopus balls [takoyaki],” Goldberg said to the Straight. “Those are good.”

When asked about their favourite Vancouver eateries, the comedic partners-in-crime name-dropped many familiar spots.

“There’s nostalgically the Naam, but that Thai place, Maenam, is pretty good,” added Goldberg.

The Hollywood pair also enjoys stopping by Granville Island for classic bites, namely the cult-favourite doughnuts from Lee’s Donuts and perogies.

“I think Lee’s Donuts on Granville Island has one of the best doughnuts on planet Earth,” said Rogen. “The jelly doughnut is mind-boggling. I’m almost resisting to say it because I don’t want them to sell-out every time.”

He was last spotted at the legendary doughnut shop last month, alongside American restaurateur and TV personality David Chang—founder of the Momofuku restaurant group.

Besides growing up and having personal and business-related ties in this city, it’s obvious why Rogen and Goldberg love Vancouver so much: there’s really good food here.
