It can be difficult to associate South Granville as a food hub when the local neighbourhood is home to countless boutique fashion shops, kitchenware emporiums, and high-end furniture stores.

But in reality, many dining establishments are located in this community, which are sometimes overshadowed by its retail counterparts. With the addition of newcomers (Small Victory Bakery and Jamjar Restaurant) and long-standing favourites (Heirloom Vegetarian Restaurant and Cheesecake Etc.), South Granville is becoming a foodie destination.

One of the classic food fixtures in this district is Toptable Group’s West Restaurant: an upscale eatery known for its tasty Pacific Northwest culinary creations.

It has recently launched a new spring multicourse prix-fixe menu, which is available for lunch and dinner. The two-course lunch offering ($29 per person) is served Monday through Friday, while the three-course dinner menu ($39 per person) is available Sunday through Thursday, and until 6 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.

For starters, guests will be able to choose items like beef tartare with smoked mayo, anchovy, and cornichon; white-and-green asparagus with cured egg yolk, fried focaccia, and pickled shallots; or a Sawmill Bay oysters with rhubarb granite and crème fraiche.

Main picks include roasted bistro filet with green-pea falafel, roasted carrot, and spiced yogurt; Coho salmon with fava beans, toasted rye, and green garbanzo; or ricotta gnudi with stinging nettle pistou (plant-based sauce), walnuts, and pecorino.

Dinner comes with dessert, and mille feuille with poached rhubard, lemon cream, and rose sorbet is available; a Guanaja chocolate soufflé is also up for grabs for an addition $6. Finish off the meal with assorted petit fours.

Food-lovers looking for a well-crafted lunch, and arts-and-culture enthusiasts hoping to grab a pre-theater meal, will find this seasonal menu to be highly enjoyable and wallet-friendly.
